Personalized Parkinson Project (“Parkinson op Maat”)
The Personalized Parkinson Project (PPP) is a prospective, longitudinal, single-center cohort study, including 517 participants with Parkinson’s disease. All participants are 18 years or older, and have a disease duration of five years or less.
Study design
Participants are followed for two years, with three assessments at the study center: at baseline, at one year and at two years. After the third visit, participants are followed-up with a yearly questionnaire up to five years after their last visit. Outcomes include a clinical assessment (including motor and neuro-psychological tests), collection of biospecimens (stool, whole blood, and cerebrospinal fluid), magnetic resonance imaging (both structural and functional), and ECG recordings (both 12-lead and Holter). After each assessment, participants fill in several questionnaires at home, including questions on quality of life and life style. Additionally, collection of physiological and environmental (i.e., ambient light) data in daily life over two years will be enabled through the Verily Study Watch. After year two, participants can participate in an additional study year, in which they continue wearing the watch.
